Our project has incorporated both hardware and software design. Our project consists of three major "parts": the computer application, the microcontroller, and the modules (vibration motors, air compressor, etc.) on the vest. The computer application will have basic playback features (play/pause, stop, etc.) with it reading the code for the microcontroller to process in the background. The microcontroller then takes the code and sends out electrical signals to the various modules available in the vest to emulate physical effects while watching the video being played.
So far, we have decided to work on two specific modules on the vest: vibration motors and air compressors. Future implementations may include scent, heat, lighting, and even sensors that can be used as inputs.
Currently, product prototyping and testing will be done via the USB interface. Wireless communication between the computer and the microcontroller may be implemented in the future.
